SportRetro Celtic 1988 Blackout Retro Shirt
Roll it back to the 80s with the SportRetro Celtic 1988 Blackout Retro Shirt in Black/Gold, a special edition of the shirt that marked the club’s 100th year.
Remixing the iconic centenary jersey in a classy new colourway, the top features a gold sponsor logo and crest to honour what was a suitably trophy-laden season for the Bhoys.Following a summer of change that saw Billy McNeill return as manager and several key players depart, Celtic brought in the likes of Mick McCarthy, Billy Stark, Chris Morris, and promising young striker Andy Walker to renew the side. It didn’t take long for them to settle in, with the Hoops winning their opening three games, then going on to defeat Rangers 1-0 in the first Old Firm match of the season.
In the following months, as Celtic’s form had begun to stagnate, Frank McAvennie and hot prospect Joe Miller were recruited to add extra firepower to the attack. They hit the ground running too, contributing to a slew of victories that saw the club cruise to the league title by a 10-point gap.
In the Scottish Cup, McAvennie was the hero, sweeping home his second of a dramatic late double in the 90th minute as the Hoops came from behind to defeat Dundee United 2-1 at Hampden Park.
